1. Her assignment was in order until the proselytizing part, because she is in a public school where there are rules to respect diversity.
2. She veered off the assignment when she started witnessing, which is not appropriate in public school during class, again, whether Christian, Jew, Islamist, Secularist or other. It's also a product of parents being brainwashed by pastors' teachings or churches that, imo, are abusive to kids when teaching them that relating to the world around them has to have the purpose and goal of bringing others to their own personal belief. This could be appropriate in a debate class on assignment, but public schools are not religious overall.
3. John 3:16 is about life and death because it promises eternal life to those who believe in "God's only begotten son", Jesus, and that they will not die if they accept him.. This is proselytizing and promoting one way only to not die and that there is only one route to eternal life. It wasn't appropriate to task in a diverse setting.
4. In the U.S. we have freedom alongside law, rules and regs. Try shouting " Bomb" at an airport. You ''ll be grounded and likely arrested and probably need a psych eval. Try standing on a soap box in an airport and preaching, same thing. That is because these are the wrong places to exercise those kinds of freedom of speech. If someone came to your church and started preaching Islam before the service started, what would your church do?
