...that sounds very awful what you have experienced, I remember, you had shared also much more here...that's just painful.I don't know how people/you manage.Fate/life...has been rough for you...I am very happy that you tried to give your very best to your kids inspite of all the circumstances.
Recently an abusing father claimed here in court, that he was abused as a child, the judge scolded him nonetheless...
As I had it much better than you and Thinker, I often, when I lament over my "fate & fortune", think of those, who had it much worse, reading the various accounts and that about cures me.
The chapter with my dear parents is almost closed...I guess I remained the somewhat black sheep, for I could have made more with the given opportunities...nevertheless I often grieved too, cause I perceived my direct environment as so superficial, non-spiritual & for a change that has nothing to do with TF...although later yes...a nice "compromise" would have been: many of the free churches...but I didn't find my way to them in time
My hometown is actually Berlin...sister & her family is still there...I prefer meanwhile the smaller towns...like you.We started from scratch, post TF, in this town, as I don't have relatives here...pretty tough that was in the beginning...the people here (not the students though of the university) are also a bit more reserved than I am accustomed to from Berlin or elsewhere...the town is one of the fewer ones, who got hardly damaged in WW II...that way there is the "architectual link" with the older times...although catholic Bamberg is also in/unfamous in the medieval witchhunt...what a time...I read up on it & recently more in an article in a magazine...really dark ages...very poor folks.
Actually my girls live with their mother 60km southwards, but visit very regurlarly...which I am super thankful for.
You'd be heartily welcome at my little abode, if you should tour a bit in Europe/Germany...if the recession isn't downsizing everything considerably (national debt is enormous), I should be working another 12-13 years, the kids should be by then selfsupporting...which ties me to the town by that timespace as minimum...I feel like travelling myself...besides the usual summervacationspots (Greece e.g.)...like revisiting India and Israel or whatever.
Sorry, I forgot about your religious (non)aspect/stance...just had included some songs, as I remember you're musically very talented...& tieing that together with German words/lyrics...I added now some other ones...meaningful...but non-religious..:
Did you Know, that Nena was mated briefly with an Ex-TF-member...somebody I briefly met & you might/should know...at least by name...his brother played a little role in Zeffirelli's Jesus of Nazareth...
Nena - 99 Luftballons - ...of the eighties...may be you remember it, was quite long in the charts...even in the US...an anti-war pop-song (I had missed it, because we hardly ever listened to "System-songs"...although this is really rather anti-establishment)
Nena - 99 Luftballons - with lyrics (mistake though rather Mann instead of man):
Here is the English/American cover version of Goldfinger...a bit more (or too much?) "bite" to it ; )
Xavier Naidoo & Söhne Mannheims - Und Wenn Ein Lied...very touching melody & video...I could google the lyrics...
Herbert Grönemeyer - Mensch, lyrics on the youtube right side clicking under more info, the song he composed after he had recovered of the loss of his beloved wife, who died due to illness...
the cute icebaer leaving the studio reminds me of us leaving TF or whatever weird "behave"-set up...
Herbert Grönemeyer - Mensch.... with José Carreras...
Kinder an die Macht - Herbert Grönemeyer 1986 would be an Anti-TF song...plus more... ; ) : )....I always liked the lyrics...again complete at the right side...clicking
After I joined I had forsaken all my wordly music and just had saved a Leo Kottke-tape...just the instrumental LP-copy-version...got into trouble
with the shepherdess, as I listened to it during JJT ; ) ...probably you know her or heard of her...had a touching biography : drugrecovery etc.
They left much earlier than me, s.it....The Kottke CD was one of the first ones "sytem"-ones I bought after TF...a better link to my Teen-years...should've tried to accomplish that one I enclosed...my favourite one I heard first at a tradefair in Berlin some years before joining....doesn't look too complicated...if I should have the time still, then...; )
The Sailor's Grave On The Prairie...veeery good attempt of that youtube- chap:
Chris Proctor Taylor Workshop - 4 another very, very nice version/cover ...didn't find the original yet in the internet
If you want...I enclose my email addy next time..
(otherwise we could also hardly meet : ) )
Wish you all the best...
