"So we live with things the "way they are" and never strive to make them "the way they should be?" If we all had that attitude, our planet is doomed."
I don't know whether the planet is doomed or not. If human beings become extinct like the dinosaurs and some other life form takes our place as the apex predators, how can we argue the planet was doomed? Life on the planet will continue with or without us in some form. That's the beauty of adaptation and natural selection--the life force of the planet is greater than any single creature.
Did you ever hear this prayer?
God, grant me the serenity
To accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
And wisdom to know the difference.
Some things in life you have to just accept, because you have absolutely no power to change how it is. Knowing what these things are takes wisdom, and wisdom takes a lot of acceptance. I cannot make anyone forgive me for the things I've done to hurt them, but I do have the power to forgive myself. I can also exercise courage by refusing to make excuses for my mistakes or complain about my lot in life when those mistakes come back to haunt me on an internet website.
