I kind of figured your spanking comment was tongue-in-cheek, but it got me thinking about punishment in TF. Now there's a book in the making, or at least several chapters: punishment in all its forms directed at all, young and old, as a method of control in the cult.
I'm glad you don't consider me a total jerk. Like you and others have pointed out, we all have the capacity to be a jerk at times. Also, when I said that my being a jerk is a clear sign that I've left TF's dystopia in the dust, I didn't mean to imply that TF doesn't have jerks amongst its members. However, most of the people I had bad experiences with in TF I wouldn't consider jerks. That's a too kind description of them. I much prefer tyrant or evil deceivers and manipulators.
Gee, all this talk of jerks is making my mouth water for some jerk Chicken or maybe some beef jerky.
