Thanks for your honesty. You describe a major depressive disorder well and it is pretty much the same thing that I went through for ten years before getting treatment.
Some doctors may over prescribe or prescribe wrongly but that doesn't make the drugs BAD. If I took heart pills without a heart complaint I am sure they would not be good for me.
I like the comparison you made with diabetes which is a good one. If you were diagnosed with diabetes or a heart problem you would take the medication to either keep you alive or give you some quality of life.
Not everyone believes in a god that can heal them and I personally would have taken anything when I hit rock bottom and didn't want to live.
It takes a long time to find the right medication for any heath problem. It took me two years to find the right meds for my epilepsy with terrible side effects along the way. But I had to go through that, now my epilepsy is controlled and I can live a normal life.
And yes, there are side effects to ALL medications. But you have to weigh up the pros and cons.
Most people I know that have been put on Anti D's have stopped taking them within three weeks because that's when the worst side effects happen. Which is good because it probably means they didn't need them in the first place.
Everyone knows now that's its dangerous to give children and adolescents anti d's and that if they really need them in cases like depression due to a disablility etc they must be closely monitered in the early stages of drug therapy as a matter of extreme importance.
I agree there are some bad doctors out, but these drugs are for people with a severe illness not 'happy pills'. And if they are taken for the afore mentioned reason the taker will soon realise when it come to this medication, sometimes you go through hell before you get better.
I also agree that therapy with Anti D's has a higher success rate that drug therapy alone.
