I wasn't in Australia, but was that part of the same operation around the same year where the Oz authorities gave up on ever trying to catch all the illegal immigrants and just made an announcement that ANY illegal that came forward honestly would automatically get permanent status? It was a one time deal. I heard of Family members taking advantage of that one.
