I went through the same amazing parenting-learning lessons too. When I see my kids blowing it now, I tell them, "It has to come from you." I make it as safe as is reasonably possible here for them to succeed, or fail, while within the safety of the home, and then stand back and watch. Like you say, it took amzaing pressure off to just recognize and do the 20%
Well, it's been snowing here yesterday and today. Brrr! It's overcast, freezing, and windy. Our huge lake was dammed up in the 70's for hydro electric production. Any water levels over 714' above sea level rise 3 feet when the October north winds begin to blow. Sustained winds of 3-4 days eats away at the shoreline causing all kinds of cottager problems. The province is now dyking the whole south end to protect us. The dykes are surely being tested today, believe me. The waves were swelling and smashing and powerfully biting at the shorelines yet, through it all, the Bonaparte gulls played in the wind and fed in the troughs, something I'm going to photograph and paint.
All the best to you in your future parenting.
