I would think if he thinks "some" exmembers have lied or exaggerated, he approach those people specifically, rather than making a blanket statement. I don't see that as very clear in his satement - i.e., "every instance" - so, how many instances? One, two, 100, the majority? You see how clever that line is? Do you see why it would offend so many, and why did he bring it up to Jules, implying that she has exaggerated or friends of hers have? I just see it as TF has his ear and that is who he is listening to, otherwise, why bother to bring up the few who may or may not have exaggerated (and how could anyone prove that anyway, it's only an assumption on his part). I see it as mean-spirited at least. Though I'm glad he apologized, it appears to me to be the kind of apology to get him out of trouble.
