We have the same confidentialty agreements at NDN. I'm the one who came up with that idea. Before the way it worked was that Barney would call everyone on the telephone. I couldn't understand about 80% of what he said, and it drove me crazy. So, we opened up a private forum, and agreed that things said in that forum were confidential.
I did it the same way when I worked with message board networks before coming to the ex-member boards.
As you point out, it is not at all unusual. But, I do understand that ex-members are more sensitive to this kind of thing than the general population, and with good reason.
