Good question, Observer. You are correct about the rapid changes in the field of computer programming and Information Technology. It's a never-ending process of learning new computer applications and languages. I've had to become proficient in several programming languages such as C++, Java, SQL, HTML, and other languages.
I rarely felt much pressure in the software development departments at Kennedy Space Center. It was actually a pretty laid-back environment, compared to such jobs outside the space center. The only down side to working there is that the pay scale is much lower than the rest of the job market for IT and programming staff.
The big problem in this field right now, is "out-sourcing," which is bleeding off many high-tech jobs to other countries such as India, where the people are willing to work for a fraction of what Americans expect. I'm not sure what the solution is for this situation, short of banning U.S. firms from doing it, and that creates its own set of problems.
