You didn't talk about brainwashing aspects so much but you confirmed for me what I suspected about the horrible way you were raised. I knew some chidlcare workers who seemed to really care for kids and others who were just harshly informing the rules but yeah they were under orders from above to put the screws on you. I heard once that the Family --was it Maria?--who said that it wasn't the bad kids who were constantly getting in trouble and breaking the rules that childcare workers should be focusing on but it was the good kids who were always obeying and quiet who were the real potential problem cases so they began paticularly digging into good kids minds and probably like you say messed them up.
