I too grew up without some of the family affect I wanted and needed. The Family supplied that need and helped me mature. Actually it may have been the structure, which I needed, more than the affection. When I was ready to leave the nest, I did so. At some point before that I had realized what the foster Family had been, a fake substitution but nevertheless able to fill in some of my needs, emotional and otherwise. Almost by opposition I was able to understand the meanings of right, love, care, concern.
I still had to deal with the twisted teachings of the family but at least I was free to make my own mistakes and learn from them. This had not been allowed before because the fmaily teachings were never wrong.
