Look at the way she has treated her own son. This is not a normal mother. To say that "doctrine" motivated her is an excuse and a lousy one at that. It's always been about "the group" and all else be damned. I really saw Maria in that movie the Beach. The cult leader in that was just like her. It's all about power and control and making sure the dream stays alive, at all costs, and hurt feelings be damned.
