Shell Seekers by Rosumund Pilcher is a very good character study. Brave New World by Adolf Huxley is also quite excellent, esp. if you lived/grew up in a sex cult. Circle of Friends by Maeve Binchy, and if you like deep and dark, Queen of the Damned by Anne Rice. I would recommend Judith McNaught if you like historical romances, esp. Whitney My Love, and Night Whispers (modern romance), and Jude Deveraux's Knight in Shining Armor and Legend (Julie Garwood is another fun romance writer, and has written some good romance mysteries). Of course, some of the classics are quite fascinating, I have been catching up on them (Great Expectations, Jane Austin's novels, Catcher in the Rye, etc...)
