I was speaking of cults, not a functional Christian life.
Personally, I think that if our Christian life is getting in the way of our family life, or our job, then maybe we have a wrong idea of what the Christian life is supposed to be.
I'm only speaking about me here though.
I spent over half of my life being obsessed with God and religion, and it hindered me in so many ways. It hurt my family, my job, and so many other things in my life. Now, if my religion were truly worth anything, I believe that it would be functional to every aspect of my life.
