<<So why wouldn't it be safe to say FUNDAMENTALIST or FUNDIE here? I would think this board would be the safe place to say it? So is it a no-no for this board?>>
That's a question for Achieck to decide. But I think the fundamental question is not whether it's <<safe>> or not to label people as fundamentalists or fundies, but whether labels are helpful ... or whether they simply alienate people & step on their toes. For example I believe in all the fundamentals of the Christian faith so that makes me a 'fundamentalist' technically. Yet the way the word is used these days it's very very negative, like describing closed-minded pushy arrogant people. The problem with using <<fundamentalist>> or<<fundie>> is that the word already has a clear dictionary meaning, but it's become loaded with negative connotations in recent years.
<<FUNDIES shove bible crap down peoples throats and have tv stations with pink haired baby-jane like old ladies giving barbie dolls away to romainian orphans.>>
Because by dictionary definition I am a fundamentalist Christian even tho I never shove religion down people's throats, it's disturbing to me to be lumped together with pink-haired hypocrites. Maybe the whole issue is one of labels and names. Maybe if you used another term such as Hypocrites or something no other exmembers would feel attacked.
I agree it is important to have a board where people can post and not feel intimidated by religion. I only have a problem with using labels that have double meanings or have loaded images.
