I relate completly! I am turning 45 next year and I fell that I have little time to 'get my act together. I left my Asian field in 1998, went fM for a year and then stopped paying for all that funny stuff I was getting in the mail...I read a book in Asia, which I bought as a cheap paperback reprint called 'think and grow rich' by Napoleon Hill. I was 37 or 38 at the time and reading that was a real turning point. In a way it exposes cults as it talks about the poverty mentality which was so promoted for years. Eventually it helped me leave, but I also think that women at that age often change their entire mind sets and think ' do I want to live like that for the rest of my life? Where will I be five or ten years from now? Anyway - I feel foolish for having fallen for that 'rapture at 1993' stuff. I guess this process is called maturing and I was a little late. When I think of the opportunities gone by when leaving the F. would have been so much easier... I could cry.
