It is really amazing at what a profound effect being in the Family has had on our lives. Even the people who were in the COG for only a few months - their lives have been affected for years and years. I think that is because we were so idealistic, we were going to change the world one heart at a time. And we were committed, we gave up everything, forsook it all for a cause. Not many people learn that kind of commitment in their whole lifetime!
My husband and I tried really hard to bury our past, but our kids wouldn't let us, haha! They told EVERYONE that we had been in a cult, and we were devastated. We just wanted to forget it, but instead every time someone looked at us, all I could think is "what do they know about us - have they heard we were in a cult?" Finally, after 7 LONG years of feeling very lonely and isolated, we found the boards, and that is when we began to make sense of everything and started to find healing.
I hope that you will make many friends here, there are wonderful exmembers on all the boards. We all understand what you are going through, and I hope you will come often and read a lot, ha! :-)
