Thanks for your replies, Jo. I don't disagree with anything in your last comment above. However, I will reserve my opinion on some of the psychologist's statements for a moment when I can give them the time a proper analysis deserves, as I would have to make some distinctions before accepting some of them. Before I saw your last two posts though, I wrote a comment under Sara's post in this thread (it says from "SG on a soapbox"), where I expand a bit on my viewpoint on this issue and you can find some parts of my answers to questions you have asked me in your last two comments.
I appreciate the dialogue. I wish I could have an exchange like this with one of my parents! I acknowledge that, gathering from what you wrote above, you have acted differently from mine in key ways. Please bear in mind that my feelings are colored by the fact that I am one of the SGs who, as you mentioned, is separated by the group from my parents. This is quite painful for me.
