I joined for the dedication. The ideal of serving God as a true disciple the way the Early Church did it. That was a major part of my motivations. But I was also motivated by the rebellion against the system, the drop out hippy ideals expounded and developed by Berg. That rage against the straight world was fanned into a "righteous" hatred against the world of the older generation by our self proclaimed King of the Beggars. And I was proud to be a part of the movement. The Family today is still riding on that same hippy idealistic rebellion against the so called doomed world of the system and materialistic pursuits.
Yes, the fear of getting judged if I left God's Will kept me in. Also the feeling of righteousness in being a part of the Lord's revolutionary cause for the ending of injustices... that kept me going to. And the mind control! It's real.
