You are so right when you say that we did not join a cult - at least I didn't. I really believe in those early days - and even today with all their cover ups - we thought we were joining a dedicated religious group and we wanted to serve God with all our hearts. Yes, there are people who used the group for what they could suck out of it and the innocent in it. Most of those people are still in or in hiding somewhere continuing on in their abusive practices. But many people joined thinking it was a harmless group of people dedicated to serving God. When the truth hit us in the fact, it was fear that kept many of us in. I know it was for me. I was so afraid to buck against God and be "out from underneath the umbrella of God's protection." Berg used those bible verses so cleverly that I really believed him. If I had known half of what I knew later, I'm sure I would never have joined in the first place. There are victims all over the place here.
