I was thinking about all the changes (outward) in doctrine and practices, peoples names, acronyms and so on.
I was in for a lot of years, not as many as alot of others, but I saw people who were in before and after me that seemed quite normal at first that literally cracked (as had to go to an institution) as a result of the extreme situation of being in the family. I wish some SGA's/SG's,FGAs: ex-members, would describe here what it was like to grow up with that, all those changes, buzz words and so on. I have read accounts of abuse of SGAs and, well I left when my kids were still quite young. I want to know from different perspectives how that is affecting peoples lives today. In the family I often remember being told not to talk about a problem until you had the victory, and there seemed to be no room for individual feelings or to tell your story until you "had the victory". I think it is helpful to relate sometimes what people still struggle with honestly, maybe anonymously for trust's sake. I think there must be people from all the ranks that suffer from fallout from the family, and stuggle today. Maybe some are abusing substances, or battling depression or anxiety problems, but feel like they shouldn't be, or that it is not trusting God to see a doctor. Or there may be an innate fear of the medical profession due to such negativity towards seeking help. Any comments?
