but what do I know? I am incline to see the letter as a contacting opportunity. Waving been out of touch for a number of years it is normal for people to communicate and review what has been going on in each other's lives. For now, this is my approach and will continue in that venue.
One thing I am fully aware is that one thing is the Family and their doctrines and quite another are the individuals who make it up. Individuals come with two parts in the most simplistic view; they have their public and their private persona, which includes thoughts and attitudes. This is particularly true in the Family where all are supposed to think the same, to see the same, to say the same, to believe the same and people must guard against going in the wrong non-approved direction. Entertaining thoughts different to the official line is already walking on hot waters. While they claim to live by faith, walking on hot waters is not allowed. Ha! The public persona is exactly the same fromone to another but their private persona is a different matter. I don't know what to think about this one case.
So while I love this person and I would love to sit down and chat about good-ol' times as well as the events of these last 20 years or so, I am afraid that it might become a one way street with me at the receiving end of whatever the intention is behind this move.
We know that the Family, let alone those in "positions of importance" in the Family, only do things that are convenient and beneficial to them. But I'm not that important, so I am puzzled. Might it be just a real and genuine desire to contact an old friend?
If that is the case, I welcome it. If I can be of help to a friend, I welcome it. But if this is a part of the power and control game the Family is constantly playing... that's another story. I am pretty clear about differentiating between the Family as a group and the members with their own individuality and particular situations.
So time will tell, just like time told that Berg's ideas were not heavenly but hellish.
