Something I've been pondering ever since I left. Which one of us can forget those stupid posters of heaven that was Berg's idea. All naked people by a fountain with some sterile looking buildings and boring children sitting around doing nothing. God, it was almost like my idea from Church - a boring, boring place. And to top it off, who benefits from Berg's idea anyway? The men of course. What a patriarchal picture. Right next to the Islamic idea that 10 virgins await the men when they die, gee whiz. Women are just objects to be used for personal pleasure.
One day I went to an exmembers house and she had used a poster to decorate one of her containers for a children's game. I almost wanted to puke. Why would an exmember want any of that stuff for a reminder? The mind boggles.
I agree with you about having to have some catastrophe happen to propel one out of the F. It's almost uncanny how bad things could be happening, but there was just enough love-bombing going on or "forgiveness" for your evil mistakes that you'd think you could go on a little longer and hope that things will change for the better. I still remember that Berg quote: "if you don't like the way things are going, stick around and two weeks it will all change." Wasn't that the truth. He used that to make us think we could bear the burden and soon it would be lifted. Trouble is, the changes would just make things worse and you can see that in Maria's domain, she keeps changing things but how can you improve on a false foundation? that simply won't work, you have to get rid of the foundation and start over again.
So back to the question - what is heaven? what is spirituality? Who knows what heaven or the after life is like - no one has returned to tell us. It's pure speculation at this point. As for spirituality - I firmly believe - Man looks on the outward appearance, but God looks on the heart. It's easy to put on a good show and fool a lot of people, but what evil lurks within or for that matter, what good comes from even the most downtrodden is what will last, what is real spirituality. I think we are all wiser because of what we have seen and experienced. I think we hold that one over on a lot of people who don't have that experience.
