Well,

we are not talking 'talk.' We are talking people who show marks and beatings and have a history of being in that position.

Let us talk only beatings. Any assault on a person would be treated in a much harsher way if that person is a stranger. When it happens in a 'family,' and there is EVIDENCE of it, things have been looked at differently. The issue of children is a poignant one. Do a research on Eli Creekmore. The case made history. A lot of this comes from the British commonlaw that looked at women and children as "property" of the men.
I don't doubt there are some people who lie about such issues, but believe me most personal histories have hard evidence to present, and the percentage of people lying is a lot less than the percentage of people who have a difficult time obtaining justice. You can do some research on this. If you do some homework, we could talk some more.

Assault is assault, and abuse is abuse.
Are you speaking of personal experience? If so, tell me your story, and I will tell you a few of mine. Still, when it comes to families the balance and bias has been tipped in the favor of offenders for a long time. Contrary to what myths may tell, the "family" is often one of the most dangerous place for children to live in.
