That was especially true about the group I was in. It was a lot like Scientology, because we stayed in our jobs and homes, and tried to recruit people that way. It was all about recruitment.
I absolutely can not compare my experience to that of people who joined The Family. Except that I do know what it is like to get totally sucked into something. I didn't leave home, but I still thought about it 24/7 for about three years. So, even if I was at work, I was busy trying to enroll new people. I doubt I had a conversation that lasted over a minute that didn't somehow relate back to est.
Another thing I did right at the same time that was very cultish was Amway. You wouldn't think that selling soap could be like being in a cult, but it is.
