This is the reason why Obama was able to sell hope for the future and the people of the US spoke. People from all over the world also recognized his message as one of hope ...for the world. Even "what's his name" from I-ran sent his best wishes.
When the bullies will most likely interpret that as a sign of weakness, the world knows that it is a sign of hope that the empire will use its power for the good of everybody, internally and externally, and not only for the privileged few.
What are the chances the rest of the US will wake up and learn what patriotism really is?
My innocent and idealistic answer is that I hope people learn the lesson of Paul in 1 Tim 5:8: "If any provide not for his own, and specially not for those of his own house, he has denied the faith and is worse than an infidel". Most people in the US needs to return to the faith of (not to the church of) their fathers.
