Every few years The Family comes up with a new date for Jesus' return.
Berg's vain belief that the last seven years of world history were connected his lifetime proved to be false. He was supposed to die in 1989 at age 70, in the middle of the last 7 years, and Jesus was supposed to have returned no later than 1993. Berg died in 1994.
Now they have new explanations for when the endtime is supposed to happen and why an entire movement founded on the belief that Berg was THE endtime prophet never panned out.
Berg's idea that he was like a Daniel to whom the future had been revealed, or like a John the Baptist, filled with the Spirit from his mother's womb to prepare the way for Jesus, is nothing short of spiritual vanity.
Berg got almost every detail wrong so far. The world did not become a one-world Communist-led government. Communism is in decline. He got so many details wrong it will take volumes of books to mention them all.
The belief that the end of the world is imminent affects your life choices in a bad way--why bother to invest for the future when it's all going to be over soon. I believe members would never have done at least 90% of the stupid things they did, if they weren't made maleable by believing the end of the world was just around the corner.
