I don't propose to know the reasons behind most of our generation's lack of religion, but from what I can judge, many of us leave Christianity as we are incapable of separating our experiences in the cult with mainstream Christianity. However, once that link is severed, more logical reasons for disbelief are quickly found, making a return to religion impossible for most of us.
If God exists (highly unlikely, IMO), perhaps we will be granted some leniency on judgement day. Or not. Spending time contemplating the mind of a non-existent entity isn't something I waste my time on.
