In a violent culture it is easier to overlook low-impact violent acts, which as seen as normal or at least acceptable behavior. TFI had that problem, so does the American society (not specifically but in general). That's why we can claim to be politically correct and exhibit some type of violent characteristic. Some think that the "right" to be angry may include a violent verbal barrage that everybody else must accept.

Anyway, there is a lot to be said about it. Mental conditioning prevents people from even noticing violence to the point of claiming that the violence never existed.
