I would say it is how to do with how he was raised post family. 7 is pretty young giving time to adjust to living a normal lifestyle outside a cult. It would depend on the influence of the cult from his parents had on his upbringing. It could be typical for family members as the bilogical family takes less precedent than the cultic family. Of course this is my opinion and without knowing him or his family I could not say exactly. Try to have good communication with him.
