Usually, Berg would support the alternative way of doing things, which should have included Laetrile and similar treatments. In PP case he opted for the mainstream solution, arguing that Hodgin's disease was one of the easiest to cure cancer with chemo and radiation - leaving everyone stunned at this assessment.
The real reason for this, for Berg, irrational twist, was, that PP had pissed him off by publishing a picture of his condition at a very late stage of the disease, sporting a huge tumor on his right neck. This run totally contrary to Berg's very strong healing background, which was engrained into him by his mother and her miraculous, but fake, healing testimony. To people of faith such things (advanced cancer) just didn't happen. If they did, something horribly and fundamentally must have been wrong with them. Hence the anti PP tirades that were to follow, which in the end actually hastened PP departure and made him die a bitter man, forsaking by what he thought to be his friends.
Well, with friends like this, who needs enemies?
