UN WORKER.
I am 23 years old, I was born in what was known than as The Family, both my parents left the organization when I was 9 years old. They never told me why, but I suspect it is because they learned alot of nasty things that they weren't aware of upon joining.
I'm pretty sure you are right about what you write about the Family.
There are so many things I detest about the organization.
But know this.
My father and mother didn't fill up a caravan with diapers, oatmeal, flour and what have you, drive to former Yugoslavia in 1993 and 1994 to distribute it to refugee camps to gain money.
Myself and my siblings travelled with them there, and we witnessed the misery of the population after the war in Yugoslavia in the 90's, but also the goodness of people.
Not everybody in The Family are crooks. My parents believed in what they did, but when they learned about stuff like what kind of man David Berg was, and what was going on in some of these "homes" to children, they wouldn't have anything to do with it anymore.
However!! They are still in contact with several family members, and these current family members are people of true heart, naive, yet pure beings.
I think the family is fucked up.
But just like a country and its leadership, one cannot judge a whole population merely by looking at its leadership.
