That M&P are not interested in dialog with just anyone, most certainly not detractors.
I got the feeling from the letter that they're giving people in TF permission to readily admit some level of fault/wrongdoing in conversations with family members and friends who have left so that these leave takers won't become embittered and hostile.
Unfortunately for many, it's too little, and much too late. Kinda like the RC Church deciding to use the spoken languages of people in worship services some 1,500 years after Latin died and 500 years after the Reformation. It's a very big deal for practicing Catholics, not that big of a change to other Christians. The Pope is still infallible when he speaks ex cathedra and M&P are still absolute monarchs of a weird little cult most people never heard of.
