The bad thing is in any case, you can't "taste" the danger...but you pay for it...may be in more than one way...the contamination seems to be of "natural" origin...
Speaking of Italy...funny, I have been in Massa too, but just for a visit from Genova...
but I remember some news on Italian TV about another water-scandal there (about everyone seems to use bottled water in Italy...in Germany it just came up more recently), and that was about contamination with microbes.
