As a former, second-generation member of this group, I should caution you that many current members of said group visit this site (and others) and, as such, you should keep that in mind. I have no idea who this person is, but I should think they could guess at who you are referring to.
Anyway, from what you have described, I don't think you have enough information to determine what this person would like to accomplish with this interaction.
Many of us no longer wish to hear anything about the "real Jesus" or what Christianity "should" be (or have been) all about. We were force-feed everything. I think your approach--initial, at least--should be more about listening.
Don't judge. Just listen.
