April 8, 2009 Watch those typos! Student newspaper messes up and pulls almost 20,000 copies as a result. Lord knows - I've made enough typos to cause both Merriam and Webster do a triple Lutz in their respective graves. But so far nothing I've messed up has incurred the wrath of major religious leaders - at least not yet. Ah, but the night is still young, n'est ce pas?
Not so lucky were the editors of yesterday's edition of the Brigham Young student newspaper which erroneously referred in a headline to a meeting of senior Latter-day Saints officials as "Apostates" rather than "Apostles." According to the Salt Lake Tribune, Rich Evans, the managing editor of the paper, described the gaffe as "the worst possible mistake." As a result, the newspaper staff physically retrieved more than 18,500 copies of the paper and reprinted it with the typo corrected.
