There is a balance I can testify to. I am a "minister" in a small church. I am the Youth/Young Adult Pastor in a church where the weekly attendance is about 50 to 70 people, closer to 50. I am unpaid staff. At the same time I work full time as a maintenance supervisor, working 40 to 50 hours a week depending if I am on emergency call. If the church was large enough and could afford to pay me I could be more efficient in my ministry there allowing me more time and energy to do the work of caring for the precious youth and young adults I have been entrusted with. The work I do in my pastoral capacity is real work and time consuming. It requires study, preparation, prayer and also time driving as my church is not real near where I live. What I am trying to say is that ministering is work and hard work. I am associated with lots of pastors and they all work hard at whattheir ministry is. I look forward to the time when I have a paid position where I will have more time to WORK in the calling I've been given. The work of the ministry is made possible by those that give to the church, and I speak of the church as a body of believers.
