While it is true in my case that people turned a blind eye to pedophilia around me when I was a child, I really wasn't living in a sexual climate, but far from it. It might seem like a contradiction but that's just the way it was -- a conservative atmosphere where monkey business went on and people didn't want to know about it.
And also, most of us didn't join a sex cult. Some of us joined what we thought was a conservative Christian do-good organization, something like the peace corps.
So I beg to differ, we didn't "let ourselves start up such a evil destructive group" due to any "sexual climate we were in."
