In 2005 there are more than 24 million people living with AIDS in Africa, not to mention the millions died, and the families that are destoyed and the orphans that resulted. Those affected in the most productive age group 15 to 49 were up to 33% in some countries.

By the end of 2007, 33 million Africans are living with AIDS and 2.1 million will die from it.

Africa has 12 million AIDS orphans.

Medication is beyond the reach of most African sufferers. Subsidized medicine and slight price reductions by drug manufacturers did not come into the picture until recently.

Treatments are patented and continue to bring in big revenue for manufacturers, the excuse is that research has to be funded. But the amounts spend on research do not come anywhere near the profits generated.

The Supreme Court rejected attempts by various manufacturers to secure the rights to produce generic versions of vital life-saving drugs.

A cure for AIDS was developed in 1997, while drug companies fought low key as possible over profits and exclusive rights and drag their feet about producing it.

Some go as far as to theorise that venture capitalists are conspiring to wait until Africa to dies out so they can take over.
