The more I thought about the child's performance on that video, the more it reminded me of how my granddaughter (same age) can quickly assemble a multi-piece puzzle of a similar nature involving the alphabet. It seems astounding to see a 2-year-old do this--take a couple of dry runs at a multi-part puzzle, then quickly assemble and re-assemble the puzzle on cue with "Where's A, where's R, etc." So yes, it is age-appropriate to recognize shapes, colors, and identify them with visual symbols. The toddler in the video is obviously bright, but she's basically doing what is developmentally appropriate for her age. She's not doing geography, because she can't conceptualize abstractly and explain the idea of "Iran" or "Taiwan" that is represented by a particular shape. Piaget called it the preoperational stage of learning in his theory of cognitive development--it's very concrete and physical, like working puzzles with a toddler.
