Thorwald, while I may not be bad enough to earn your scorn regarding geographical ignorance, I still did not get exposed to a fraction of the vast geographical knowledge you describe and which you attribute to your family upbringing. I actually never saw any teaching of geography to that extent either, nor ever became aware of someone who knew so much about it.
I may have misunderstood and you learned most of it on your own after getting decent exposure in the Family only. But I guess if that's the case, I would think everyone who learned to read or write has the Family to thank if they become a writer or somebody whose achievements are based on reading skills (which is a huge universe). Or an opera singer who attributes their skill to "inspirations", LOL.
