You make a good point. Something a little more specific in a public statement would go a long way with the walking wounded. For anyone not versed in the language one uses in an apology to crime victims, it goes something like this:
"I am profoundly sorry for the widespread corruption of minors that took place because of my leadership in The Family. I wish to express deep remorse about all sexual activity I personally engaged with children and adolescents and any such activity between adults and minors that I knew about, condoned, or encouraged. I ask your forgiveness knowing full well that I can never give back the innocence I took from you or repair the lasting damage I did in your life."
