I will take your word for it. But you haven't been very up front or easy to understand, and have yourself not answered to several issues brought up. But let's not get into that.
Your level of involvement and commitment as someone "not personally involved" is not making anything about you more believable, or more believable for the family in question.
Your hypotheticals, which because they were not genuine hypotheticals to start with since you knew the family, created frustration and intangible discussions full of seeming double-speak.
That indelible impression you are not up front and honest may undo whatever ground gained for the issues you raised.
