There have been several threads over the last week or two about the possibility a FGA family with a long and "distinguished" Family history making some sort of statement of contrition about the past on this website. What I mean by "distinguished" is that it seems to be possible to connect a Family alias to a legal name. To me, that says one thing: These people are found on a page at xfamily. I help out that site with research, and I believe xfamily is the ultimate online source to information about TFI and its members, current & past.
Something I've picked up from the recent posts at exfamily is that some of the conversation about this family seems to be initiated by the SGA offspring of the FGAs. There also seems to be an LTO FGA (like myself) who knows this family and is advocating on their behalf.
I'm absolutely clueless about who these people are or who they were when they were in TF. It seems one thing their advocates want is that their legal identity be decoupled from web pages that associate them with TF. I'm not sure that is possible if the cat is already out of the bag. Once a deed is done, it's usually very difficult to undo it.
Something else that seems to be advocated is that this hypothetical family be assured of anonymity in whatever they might decide to post on this website in the way of an apology, amends, or disavowal of Family practices & doctrines. Well, shoot. I publish on this site anonymously all the time, even though I carelessly set myself up to be outed on more than one occasion.
But I don't have a "distinguished" Family history and there are few, if any, "juicy" bits of information to dig out of the archives on me. What I keep coming back to in reading these threads is just what sort of notoriety are we talking about? How about a conversation that gives a few more specifics about some hypothetical former FGA Family members--you know, something like a case study about a "distinguished" career in TFI where readers can get a feel for the scope of the issues this family is trying to address through a public statement of some sort?
Like the coordinator has said, I'm not inclined to want to cut much slack to someone who published a glowing testimony about the spiritual benefits of adult-child sex. I'm also not inclined to feel warm and fuzzy about someone who was so active in setting up victor programs that they engaged in brutal beatings & public humiliations. But this is where knowing more about specifics makes a difference. For example, MG has apologized for using corporal punishment when he was an educator in TF. One SGA responded by saying, "You were one of the few who tried to provide a formal education." Lots of educators in many parts of the world use corporal punishment on unruly students. That doesn't make it a good practice, but it's not the same thing as systematically beating kids up in an attempt to break their spirit.
