It's extroadinary that you are able to talk about old Germany, Hitler and the Nazis so openly. I grew up with German jokes, and as an adult learned quickly that they weren't appreciated by my German friends. I used to make fun of Arnold's thick Austrian-German accent, but when in Germany, I realized how out of place that was.
Post-war Germans were brought up with the guilt of the war on their shoulders. Unlike the other losing side, the Japanese, Germans have done a whole lot of facing up to the past. Yet, it almost feels taboo to bring up the subject with Germans now, because you don't want to add to their burden. Still, there are many questions I have, about life during WW2, the German perspective. Of interest to me, especially since I joined a mind-control cult, is what went on in the minds of the general populace, what inroads Hitler took to influence his followers; the collective psyche, what was it that appealed to them, how did they let themselves be controlled that way, and so on.
