True, more's the pity they only teach art, immortality through artistic or supreme achievement, and the power of poetry to express all human emotion and hopes and fears.
But the real reason Berg hated Homer is, you can't use Homer to enslave young people's mind's as effectively as you can use the Bible to convince people to engage in adultery, falsehood, child sex, forsaking all, slavish subjection, and more foolish fallacies than Homer cared to indulge in. Homer was about engagement with reality; Berg was about getting concubines and toyboy leadership...
