You don't conduct this indepth of a study and not come up with fairly sound conclusions. I would say the study is credible and accurate considering the different sources of information the researchers availed themselves of. The paper is about prophecy, not about sexual practices, etc.
Also, I don't see the statement as being accurate regarding Nova Religio being an apologist journal. The foremost experts in the field of sociology of religion publish in that journal along with a number of not so foremost wanna be experts. Its somewhat of a mixed bag, but still a good resource for academic studies.
