The quote that David C put here from me was part of a longer message I wrote yesterday, after returning from Rome and seeing the situation. I was away while the situation developed.

I do believe it was blown out of proportion, and not as serious as to get the kind of reaction it did.

I do want to note that these websites aren't just free Internet thingies for everybody to do whatever they want with. Some of us work very hard to provide the sites, and spend our own personal money to do so. These are our resources, and they aren't just here for the taking to be used at will for any purpose.

I would imagine that WC, before he put together the website for the book, probably at least saw a draft of the book so he would know what he was working for?

It would surprise me if he went into it blindly, not knowing what he was supporting.

I realize that NDN was not being asked to do as much as WC, but still it would have been common curtsey to ask us before using our resources to try and sell something.

Had I been in town, and received an email, I probably would have responded by asking for an advance copy to look at. If it looked like it was truly an ex-member book, and say not something from somebody sympathetic to the cult, or another group like Scientology just trying to lure new member, I'm sure I would have suggested that we help promote it in some way.

The problem is that the "Reposter" just took without asking, and if the Coordinators here think that is reasonable and fair, I'll be happy to send future takers over here if you really like for your bandwidth to be used that way.

Regarding the idea that it was our responsibility to check out the book, not the responsibility of the promoter to inform us, I don't accept that. We aren't selling the book, or making any profit from it whatsoever. The person who is doing that has the responsibility to do the work it takes to get the book promoted.

It isn't even clear that the writer wanted the book promoted on NDN. I do see the situation between the writer and the "Reposter".

Finally, to the Coordinators here who are inclined to be critical of how things are run at NDN, all I have to say is that I've watched you protect your resources over the years in an aggressive and diligent manner. I'm not sure if you just don't understand the same rights apply to other websites, or if this is just another opportunity to criticize NDN.
