You can now barely get a job at a community college in CA without a PhD. Nowadays the PhD is necessary almost anywhere in this state. I don't get how this is possible unless he has a bonafide doctorate in sociology.
How did he get a tenure track position? (If the info is correct?) Typically they hire lecturers for these courses, and they are not tenure track positions.
